A new TikTok ban gains steam

The United States is considering legislation to force ByteDance to divest TikTok or ban it nationally due to concerns about Chinese influence and national security. The bill, named the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, has passed unanimously out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. If enacted, it would require ByteDance to sell TikTok within 180 days or face a ban. TikTok is responding by urging users to oppose the legislation, leading to a surge in phone-based activism into Congress. While the bill's passage is uncertain, the speed, bipartisan support, and TikTok's response indicate a serious threat to the app's future in the US.

Who would realistically buy Tiktok?

I mean sure, Meta could buy it and bring it into their ecosystem, but why? They will get a win by just having them eliminated since they share identical features with IG.

It would probably be a company that has that desire to buy their way into social media (such as Microsoft, as an example) because they have failed at social themselves.

Coincidental that Instagram overtakes TikTok as world’s most downloaded app?

If you are looking to invest time on a platform and you are a USA resident, you likely would want the most “politically stable” option.
