Threads has entered the fediverse

Threads, the Meta social networking app, has integrated with the fediverse, allowing users to share their posts with other ActivityPub-compliant servers. This move enhances decentralization, giving users control over their online identity and content. Threads leverages ActivityPub, enabling interoperability with platforms like Mastodon and WordPress. Initial features include sharing posts, likes, and replies across servers, with future plans for more integration. The phased approach aims for a fully interoperable experience while ensuring user experience and safety.

I know there is a lot of criticism from the Mastodon folks using ActivityPub, but the fact that a corporate entity is actually trying to be interoperable, when they really don’t have to, is nice to see. I think we can all benefit from a free and open internet.
