According to NBC News report, Twitter has seen a massive 22.9% drop in the total number of daily U.S. app users since Elon Musk’s takeover of the company.

Summary:

  • Usage of the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has been declining since Elon Musk acquired it.
  • In the U.S., X daily active users dropped 18% from the previous year, while worldwide users fell 15%.
  • Musk relaxed content moderation rules, leading to user frustration and advertiser exodus.
  • X's revenue from in-app purchases is only a fraction of what it previously earned from advertising.
  • Competitor Threads, closely integrated with Instagram, surpassed X in downloads and has shown potential for growth.
  • Despite X's claims of growth, other sources indicate slower progress compared to Threads.

It’s really hard to come back from something like that. Once people have alternative habits or places that meet their needs bringing them back to an old platform is nearly impossible. The platform would have to offer something of new value to make them reconsider.
